Wapi has travelled well over the years. Growing up in Istanbul, studying in Berlin, spending time in Montreal and currently living in Vienna with his production style always leaning towards electronic. No doubt, influence has been absorbed along the way. Possibly what makes this recent E.P, Don’t Go, a brilliant listen. The 4 tracks have variance, however one common theme is the emotion that exudes through each one. Described as a long goodbye, sad but necessary by 2DIY4, the sister label to Dynamic, who are releasing the EP. It is possible that Wapi created this work in search of closure, or possibly to help others through difficult times.
The matching of Wapi with 2DIY4 appears perfect. The Hamburg based label actively seek artists who display emotion, vulnerability and overall sincerity throughout their productions. This EP explores the incomprehension of separation, the melancholy of a goodbye, losing the reliability of touch and the yearning for a person to change their mind.
The title track, Don’t Go, builds with a soft and pensive dull tone in a muted rock style asking the significant other not to go before breaking into a rhythmic Hispanic edged instrumental capable of washing clouds away from any mind.
